He is best known for his work at WKRG-TV in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama, where he has served as a member of its team since 1969, and as lead news anchor since 1980. ==Life and career== Showers was born on the north side of Mobile, Alabama. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served as Military Intelligence Analyst in the Far East, Middle East, and other territories. He returned to Mobile to attend Mobile State Junior College.〔 He joined the news team at local station WKRG-TV in 1969, where he first worked as a reporter covering the police, the school board, and local government. He was, according to the ''Lagniappe'', often the first individual on the scene of large news stories.
